It is a joy and delight for me to welcome you and to thank you for checking out our website. One of my favorite passages in the Bible comes from Ephesians 3:17-18; “I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.”
I have a few other favorites too but this verse invites our lives to be filled and consumed with the sweet goodness of Jesus and to know the love of God. Jonathan Hargrove writes in his book, Common Prayer, A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals, “There is a longing for community in all of us. We long to love and to be loved and to participate in God’s dream to offer hope and Good News to the World.”
Bethesda United Methodist Church is all about “giving our lives away in the name of Jesus.” I stole that from Wendy Miller in her book, Come with Me. In this way, we journey together to learn about God’s love, explore in questions, share in life’s struggles and participate in God’s work. There is much about God that is a mystery and yet much to be discovered. We smile warmly about God’s touch in our life!! We desire for each week’s worship experience to be full of meaning where we lift up praise and offer the wonder of Jesus to be proclaimed.
Our church is a part of Haw Creek Commons and our highest desire is to be an inviting and loving place to well, call home. At least a place closely related to that, where you can swing by, drop in to pray, share in some coffee; participate in conversation, or take part in a Bible study or worship. Soon we will have Seminary students participating within the Haw Creek community.

REV. MARIA ASKEA
Pastor of Children and Family Ministries
Maria Askea was called to serve at Bethesda UMC, having formerly served as Pastor of Children and Families in Arkansas and Mississippi, to give oversight, and develop, the children and family ministries in June of 2017. As such, she feels it is a privilege, and honor, to be a part of helping children know, love, and serve God. Maria also places emphasis on family-centered ministry; knowing the importance of multi-generational worship and serving. She was born and raised in historic Savannah, Georgia, however after marriage, she and her family have moved extensively throughout the south. Settled in North Carolina going on her second year, she is thrilled to call Asheville home.
She is married to Jacob, who works for Columbia Forest Products in Old Fort, and together they have three beautiful children: Hayden (17) Hadley (13) and Harper (8). When not engaged in formal ministry, Maria enjoys running, swimming, antiquing, advocating for Down syndrome awareness, and simply spending time with her family and pets.
